ABOUT

Sandsong Garden is a small family operated garden on .7 acres in Eastham on Cape Cod. We consider all of the earth on “our property” as part of our garden.

The plants we offer are selected by Shaun who gained his knowledge and experience about plants primarily though working with Edible Landscapes of Cape Cod and attuning with Sandsong Garden.

Sandsong Garden is a young garden, started in 2020 with curiosity and love. We only use organic and regenerative-type practices - never using any pesticides (even organic) though we do use an essential oil spray once a month.

All of the soil we use is either certified organic or from our own compost.

We try to start many plants from seed so please take note of the plants started by seed.

The importance of starting plants by seed:

Starting plants by seed tends to be rare in the plant nursery industry. A lot of plants are propagated through other methods because it’s faster and more cost effective; however, other methods are basically cloning one plant over and over. This leads to a lack of diversity. When started from seed, each plant is genetically unique and adds to the strength of the plants themselves and the overall ecosystem. Just as diversity and patience is key for a more loving, exciting, and robust human experience, it is key for all of life.

Most of the perennial native seeds require cold stratification which is a period of cold exposure, typically 30-90 days. The majority of these seeds were started throughout the winter and have been progressively transferred into larger pots. Solid root systems are most important for plants to get established and thrive in coming years. Most of our plants are ready for a larger pot or to be planted in the ground.

Compostable Pots:

Our mission is to be plastic free. Unfortunately, the gardening industry is paradoxically largely reliant on cheap plastics, often single use and non-recyclable (most plastic doesn’t gets recycled anyway). Any plastic used is re-purposed or re-used, but we are aware that these pots are also likely adding PFAFs and microplastics into the soil...

SO, we try to use compostable pots, which are expensive and limited by size availability. These pots also compost so they do not last long.

All of this is reflected in our pricing.
